Message from the President, Girl Scouts of Japan.
25th July 2011
Dear Girl Scout and Girl Guide sisters;

  First of all, please accept our sincere gratitude for all your warm support, messages and prayers for people of Japan who are affected by earthquakes and tsunami.
  4 months have passed since the greatest earthquake and Tsunami record attacked Japan. Many affected people still live in shelter and so many people are missing.
  We, Girl Scouts of Japan launched the GIRLS’ POWER UNITE PROJECT to assist the people in the affected areas. We develop the project which is the most “Girl Scouts”way in a medium-and long-term perspective. Our slogan is GIRL’S POWER UNITE!.
  The first project is Special Summer Camp for the Children suffered from the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan. It will be hold from 14 to 16 August 2011 at National Hanayama Youth Outdoor Learning Center in Miyagi prefecture. Many children are suffering the loss of family members or friends and also enduring hard life at shelters. The damage and impact on children's mind and heart caused by the disaster are yet to be determined but surely exist. In order to alleviate their pain and offer them an opportunity to regain courage and strength to move on with their lives toward future. We hope that the special camp experience will offer children a sanctuary where they can relax and have fun with friends surrounded by a beautiful nature under the special guidance and care from mental care counselors. All expense for children will be borne by GSJ utilizing the goodwill donations sent from the members of GSJ, Girl Scouts and Guides all over the world, and other organizations and corporations in partnership with GSJ.
  The second project is Disaster prevention badge. Girls improve various skills with a view of disaster prevention, then reaffirm the meaning of “Be Prepared” and grow up to be a person who helps others.
  Once again, thank you for your support and encouragement. Receiving so many warm encouragements from all around the world, we are always reminded that we are not alone and sisters and friends are always with us. Please give our best regard to your fellow Girl Scouts and Girl Guides. All the Girl Scouts in Japan will face this challenge with courage and take action with Girl Scout spirits.

With sincere gratitude for all your support and encouragement,

Mariko ASANO, President,
Minori YUDA, Ph.D. , International Commissioner,
Girl Scouts of Japan
